Review

I do enough sculpting (in Paperclay currently, but I have used polymers in the past, and would try again if I had a craft budget and a safe place to bake them) that I keep an eye out for books on the subject; like most of my art books, I rarely get the chance to actually implement their ideas, but they're fun to page through, and they spark the imagination. This is a small book, but it has a lot of magic and inspiration. With several step-by-step projects full of variants and a sense of humor, Friesen advocates jumping into a project feet-first and letting it go where it will, and for her small projects the approach certainly seems to work well. If you find yourself scared to sculpt anything - and I admit I tend to paralyze myself when I contemplate creative projects - this fun little book and its freestyle approach may be just the thing you need to stop procrastinating and start making things. It certainly made me want to break out the polymer clays again.
